How Do I...

Recycling

The Village of Evergreen Park offers one of the most progressive recycling programs in Illinois.  Because of our expansive program, nearly 2000 tons of recycled materials are diverted from landfills annually.

The Village of Evergreen Park is known for its highly successful Blue Bag program. Mayor Sexton was instrumental in the establishment of this program in our community over ten years ago.  He has since shown an even deeper commitment by establishing further environmental programs, such as:  the annual Environmental Awareness Fair, a lecture series involving various environmental topics and speakers, an environmental friendly approach to the West Nile virus, and Bike the Park.

Mayor Jim Sexton and the Evergreen Park Environmental Education and Recycling Program seeks to further educate the children and the community on alternative ways to dispose of household wastes, to take pride in maintaining their homes and their community, and to effectively and responsibly maintain our earth.

Once you have cleaned out your basement or garage you may want to donate items to a worthy organization.  Contact the Village Hall for a free Recycling Guide.  The Recycling Guide features organizations/businesses that accept computers, cell phones, furniture, fire extinguishers, packing peanuts, used motor oil, car batteries and more.

Household hazardous materials are collected yearly at a specific site determined by the Metro Water Reclamation District, for info call  312-751-6633 or contact them on the web at http://metrowastewater.com/res_hhwp.asp for drop off locations and dates.

With these programs in place, as well as our newly enacted Environmental and Recycling Education Programs, we can proudly boast we are an Environmentally Friendly Town
