The Environmental and Recycling Education is proud to offer the following curriculums, which are available to preschools, grammar schools, junior high schools, youth and citizen groups free of charge. The Wonderful World of Worms
Learn recycling through using red worms. Children and adults will learn alternative way of disposing household wastes in a safe manner and reasons why it is good for the environment. For grades preschool through first.
Recycling is the Way to Go
This program is offered to fourth grade classes in Evergreen Park. Recycling and buying recycled-content products is the focus of this educational lesson. Throughout classroom discussion and participation students will learn about the Village’s recycling program, distinguish between recyclable and non-recyclable waste, and appreciate the value of recycling by calculating the amount of disposable waste produced by the U.S. and the entire world with and without recycling.
Non-Pointsource Water Pollution, Should We be Concerned?
This program illustrates how to track pollution in residential areas, forestry, transportation, recreation, and farm. The children and adults will then see how pollution and runoff are apparent when using different everyday household products that contain different pollutants. The model that is used further shows children and adults how to prevent water pollution and how to learn other methods of conversation via buffer strips, soil, clay berms, and manure containers. Should I Be Afraid of Landfills?
Landfills will always be needed to accept trash that cannot be recycled or converted. This program will demonstrate to children and adults how a modern landfill functions as well as the importance of suitable solid waste management. Many people believe a landfill is a hole in the ground where our trash is dumped and left. The model that is used will show how a modern landfill operates today compared to past.
