What qualifies a vehicle as being abandoned?
The village ordinance states that any vehicle on public or private property will be considered abandoned if it is in a state of disrepair making it incapable of being operated and if it has not been moved for a period of three or more days. If it does not have a current Illinois or other state license plate and has not be moved for three days, it is considered abandoned. If it is parked on any public right-of-way and has not been moved for a period of three or more days, the car is also considered abandoned. Abandoned vehicles should be reported by calling the non-emergency number at the Police Station at (708) 422-2142.
